LANE AND MAE Q&A
What is your name, and name of your company?
My name is Jodi Horton. I created Lane and Mae.
What does Lane and Mae specialize in?
Merino Wool! We primarily create giant knit blankets and just launched a cozy knitwear collection of scarves and Pom Pom hats.
When did you start Lane and Mae and what’s the story behind it?
I launched Lane and Mae back in February…..it’s surreal we are approaching the 1 year mark… I chose the name Lane because it is what we call my daughter Delaney, and Mae is my middle name, that I also share with my grandma.
What was the The Inspiration for Lane and Mae?
My recent venture into motherhood brought with it a ton of inspiration and desire to create and develop something with real quality. That and the hours I would spend sitting and nursing my son made me itch for some productivity during all that down time. Since starting Lane and Mae I have found I really enjoy the business side of developing the brand and find inspiration in the relationships I have made thus far.
What sets you apart from the competition?
I believe first and foremost it is the quality of the merino wool I use that sets Lane and Mae apart from the competition. I do not order my wool from a mass production factory. I work closing with a cruelty-free farm and production mill in Europe to ensure the quality is truly unmatched. I also look at each hand-knit item as form of art….making each and every single item incredibly special and unique.
What was your first job?
Holy Moly, I haven’t thought about my first job in years! It’s a blur but I believe it was running the cash register at Hollister, that or dressing customers in cowboy attire for a throwback photo at a local theme park.
If you could live any place in the world other than where you currently live, where would it be and why?
Such a hard question! I’ve always said I would love to live somewhere for a year or two but would always want to come back to the good old USA. I spent a month my junior year of high school traveling all over Europe. I think perhaps eating my way through Italy again and to learn Italian would be such a joy. I also am a fan of the tiny town Adare, and Dingle in Ireland….sorry I can’t choose!
What are you currently watching on Netflix?
My husband and I just finished The Newsroom. I utterly love that show and would already watch it again if my husband would let me! ( I believe it is on Amazon/not Netflix)
As kids we want to do and learn everything. As time passes we tend to stick to one thing and stop acquiring new skill sets. If you had a month to learn a new skill what would it be and why?
I love these question, you’ve got me thinking. I want to learn Italian. Mainly because it is a beautiful language and it is a great excuse to visit Italy again. I think it would be great exercise for my brain as well. Ha that sounds odd, but since having my babies my brain has gone to pot. I would also love to learn how to break an egg with one hand, I think I could master that in one month!
