INCY INTERIORS Q&A
What is your name, and name of your company?
I’m Kristy Withers from Incy Interiors.
What does Incy Interiors specialize in?
Incy Interiors specializes in designer furniture for children.
When did you start Incy Interiors and what’s the story behind it?
Incy began when my son was 2 and was ready to move into a big boy bed. At the time I was working at eBay Australia managing their marketing team and I was traveling regularly to the US/Europe and seeing all the amazing products available there. I had an image in my mind of a dark brown iron bed. I searched high and low for it. I tried to get one made, I tried to buy old ones off eBay but they had lead paint and I tried to import one but I just kept coming up with barriers. I harped on and on at anyone who would listen about my quest for this bed. Finally my husband said to me one day ‘for god sake stop talking about it and you just doing it’. This was the push I needed and from then Incy was born!
What sets you apart from the competition?
The special thing about our business is that everything we do is ‘from the heart’. This includes everything from our product designs which are all named after the special people in our lives, to the stores that stock our products and the brands we sell in our store. We know and love the story behind each and every one of them, hence why we have chosen to work with them. We also aim to create a beautiful but not intimidating shopping experience in our own store so that people are inspired but not pressured to buy or afraid to ask questions. Every decision we make is ‘from the heart’.
What was your first job?
My first job was cleaning rooms and working in the laundry at a local tourist attraction.
If you could live any place in the world other than where you currently live, where would it be and why?
I am lucky enough that I travel constantly (10 international trips so far this year) and I have never found anywhere I love as much as where I live – country Australia. We have lived in various cities but I just loved the relaxed lifestyle of the country and we are close enough to Sydney for when I need a city fix.
What are you currently watching on Netflix?
The new season isn’t on Australian Netflix but I totally binge watched Nashville. My husband was even addicted!
As kids we want to do and learn everything. As time passes we tend to stick to one thing and stop acquiring new skill sets. If you had a month to learn a new skill what would it be and why?
I would learn Mandarin. I make very halfhearted attempts at learning it and then I get busy and forget about it so if I could dedicate a month that would be amazing. We manufacture all of our products in Asia and knowing Mandarin would make my life sooooooo much easier.
